Cockroach - Take Four

A few days after I received this CD Cockroach announced they were going to quit. So my main goal for this review is to find out whether it is a good of a bad thing they stopped. Like the record title says this their fourth record, I’ve heard the split with Mihoen! and the "Staying Angry" 7”, but can’t compare this to their split with Gride because I never listened to that record. Cockroach plays straight on fast, crusty hardcore and I think it’s tricky to make a full-length in that style, because it gets boring pretty easy. So you have to try to make it attractive without losing the power, rawness and aggression, a hard job. But in my opinion they more than succeed. Where the previous releases were more straightforward, this cd has a lot of variation. This has some parts that sound like ManLiftingBanner, Mihoen! (especially in the Dutch songs) DS-13, with vocals that remind me of some early eighties Italian bands. The songs I like most are “Prinses” and “Bushpop”, the only Dutch songs on the record on which they sound just a little bit more passionate and which I can sing along with more easily. When you’re in love with someone and want to let him/her know this, grab your guitar set yourself under his/her balcony, play the opening chords of "Prinses" and keep repeating “je bent mooi, je bent mooi”. I’m sure you will succeed. On one hand it’s a bad thing they quit, this cd is great and their next record could have been perfect. On the other hand, at least they stopped while they were still good and had fun in what they were doing. Last thing I wonder is where I can get a Bush-doll, it’s sounds like a really cool toy to play with.

	Ik moest er eerst erg aan wennen. Was het eerst nog lomp snelle crusty hc nu heeft het meer melodie. Dit is echt zon plaat die je een aantal keer moet luisteren om er achter te komen dat het toch echt wel vette toelie is.
