The Red Chord - Clients

2002 saw the birth of ‘Fused Together In Revolving Doors’, the brutal, harsh and complex debut of The Red Chord. A year later they toured Europe and they brought us the tracks of the debut live. They also played the tracks "Fixation On Plastics" and “Upper Decker” and you can hear them for the first time on plastic now. They’ve got a whole new jacket and perfectly match into the new style The Red Chord plays nowadays. The new style is bit a more straight forward, not as complex as 'Fused Together in Revolving Doors' but still brutal as fuck. The production is also cleaner than the debut album. When you like the old one it isn’t easy to get used to new album although you definitely hear that the song quality has improved a lot. A lot of brutal metalcore and noisecore outfits wished that they could make songs like “Upper Decker” or “Hospice Residence”. The brutality, hard breaks and dissonant riffs make you beg for more. The intimidated raw voice of singer Guy does the rest. Totally different from the other songs is the slowcore song "He Was Dead When I Got There". First it reminds me of an instrumental Pantera song. Later the band Crowbar comes to my mind. It has the same slow vibe as these guys from the South have and this track also reveals that the dudes of The Red Chord are huge Crowbar fans.

But after all, does ‘Clients’ top its predecessor? Although it’s better than 90% percent of todays brutal and over the top metalcore, this one just sounds too clinical if you compare it to first album. The debut has that totally over the top raw and sharp production that hurts your ears. And that’s just what I miss on ‘Clients’.
