Real McKenzies - 10,000 Shots

Fat Wreck

When you hear the style that the Real McKenzies play, you'd think that they created their sound in the slipstream of popular bands like Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly, but that's not the case. You see, this band has been already around for ten years now doing their thing. And their thing is playing happy folkpunk with Scottish-Canadian roots. No wonder the songs are about drinking scotch and you hear the occassional bagpipes here and there. "Pour Decisions" is a good example of the mix that the Real McKenzies deliver, since it has as much punk rock influences as traditional elements. "10,000 Shots" is the band's third album (first one on Fat Wreck) but it's only the first record I've heard of them, so I can't compare it to their previous work. But what I can tell you about this album is that it has something for everyone: fast songs, traditional singalongs and melancholic midtempo semi-ballads. So if you like your punkrock to be diverse and don't mind the Scottish influences than "10,000 Shots" is the album you should check out.

	Dropkick Murphy's is toch ook al zo'n 10 jaar bezig?

	Alhoewel ik niet echt een liefhebber ben van folkpunk hou ik van dit album... De eerste week dat ik het had heb ik het volgens mij wel 25 keer gedraaid. Anderhalve ster te weinig dus, wat mij betreft.

	Kijk nu al uit naar de VERA show! Goeie plaat. Laat wel de volwassenere kant van de Mckenzies zien, op muzikaal gebied dus.

	Deze band heb ik nooit wat aan gevonden en bij deze plaat veranderd er alweder niks kwa opinie. Smaken verschillen.

	ik heb al hun werkjes in de kast staan en de enige die ik met enige regelmaat nog eens opzet is die 'clash of the tartans', maar wel een leuk bandje... ze hebben overigens 5 full lengths en niet 3...

	Tijdens hun eerste optreden in europa ( poortgebouw, rotterdam)heeft de zanger heeft me verteld dat hun eerder deze stijl speelde als de dropkick murphy's. Relaxte gasten. Onze bassist leende hun zn bass kabel en die namen ze per ongeluk mee. We kregen em een klein jaar later weer terug... met de excuses voor het "jatten" van de kabel... Zeker de moeite waard om helemaal te horen dit plaatje !
