Renee Heartfelt - Death Of The Ghost

Just a bunch of guys maturing in a very good way. That is Renee Heartfelt. Some people might wanna call this emo, some punk-pop but I prefer the term post-hardcore. Why? Well okay, sometimes it’s soft and spacy but I find it really refreshing to hear this kind of music. Hard pounding drums and cool melody lines; melodic but also melancholic. Multi talent Pete Appleby brings soft vocals completing the music like it should be. As a matter of fact it’s clear that this band has a different background from all the emo overload you hear so often nowadays. But that’s something you might know already because the debut EP also sounded really fresh. “Death of the ghost” is a natural follow-up to that 5 song debut EP and seems like a throwback to bands like Quicksand, Failure, Texas Is The Reason, or Samiam. If you are looking for something more and open up to Renee Heartfelt, I’m sure it’ll grow on you. Hardcore kids mixing up emo, it’s worth a listen, it’s exciting and feels like progression. It’s a great record, period.

	Ik hoor er Quicksand in, maar ook The Cure... Erg lekker plaatje, komt ook door een hele goeie productie trouwens...

	Yup, doet het hier ook goed. Naast Quicksand en Cure wil ik nog graag Killing Joke toevoegen. Overigens met ex-leden van Give Up The Ghost, Striking Distance en Count Me Out, for those who care.

	Ik draai deze plaat graag en geregeld, ligt fijn in het gehoor. Doet me trouwens eerder denken aan bands als By a Thread en Man Will surrender.

	en die wave plaat van kill holiday, en jimmy eat world. En dat vind ik precies het probleem van deze band, het valt iets te vaak op waar ze leentjebuur hebben gespeeld. En ook al vind ik het te slick klinken, het is verder een erg prima schijfje.

	Simple Minds misschien ook ? Volgens mij zijn die verschillende invloeden juist de kracht van dit cd'tje. Leuk dat iedereen weer andere invloeden hoort.
