Drain the Dragon - The Rise of Madness

I try to imagine how Drain the Dragon found the style of music they play. Probably, there was a big fight between the musicians and the singer, with the singer opting for metallic hardcore and the rest of the band wanting to play fast technical punkrock.

In the end the just settled for mixing those styles. The band plays fast energetic punkrock with some oldschool hardcore influences, which make me think of the Almighty Trigger Happy, and the singer screams over that in a Darkest Hour like voice. I don't know what to call this style, so maybe the best typification would be calling this "a strong case of musical identity crisis."

Oddly enough, this identity crisis sounds rather good. It's never like a forced attempt to be ecclectic. The differences easily blend into one, making the record sond like a whole. Except for the use of the clean sung vocals, which are totally unfitting, and out of key on top of that.

But what's up with the length of the songs? An average length of around five minutes, with the opening track stretching to 6.45 is a bit long, to use an understatement. There are just not enough good ideas per song to fill this length. So, if every bad part would be scratched from the songs, that would make the songs not only shorter, but also better.

If you are looking for easy to label music, stay away from Drain the Dragon. If you wonder what a record sounds like that could be filed in four different genres (punkrock, hardcore, metalcore, screamo), on different grounds , be sure to check this out.

	Drain the Dragon is dan ook slang voor masturberen. Ik vind het een geweldige band! www.myspace.com/drainthedragon staan de 2 vetste nummers van hun demo! De demo is ook erg cool, hoewel de cleane zang vaak erg min is met uitzondering van bij Rise of Madness en Deceived Again. Die zanger heeft me zelfs gratis die demo opgestuurd omdat ik ze 2 of 3 adressen heb gegeven waar ze hun demo konden laten reviewen in NL Allemaal checken lui!

	fast techincal punkrock? Ik hoor toch gewoon een beste poep metal hoor. Vind er verder niet veel aan.
