Tough guy hardcore is still alive and On A Warpath is here to prove it! They have slow, dragging breakdowns in their songs that are probably heavily influenced by the old Shattered Realm stuff, but they also know how to speed it up. The lyrics are pretty standard (betrayal, revenge, etcetera), but hey, you can’t expect a mosh band to sing about dwarves and elves now, can you? The style they play isn’t very exciting either, because they never show the quality that Shattered Realm showed on their early releases. And when you’re comparing your band so obviously to another band, you better make sure it sounds good. On A Warpath did a good thing by choosing this musical direction but now they have to go for that next step so their music will leave a lasting impression on the audience. That’s what I’m missing on this release.
