The Showdown - A Chorus Of Obliteration

What the fuck is this? The Showdown kicks of with a song called “A monument ecased in ash”. The first couple of minutes I’m still in doubt if I should trash this CD or keep listening. Let’s give ‘em a chance and try to sit this one out. Hmmm, after a couple of tracks I seem to get the hang of it. The tracks start to sound better and better. After a couple of spins I even start to like it. Is it the metal or the southern rock influences that this debut album contains that makes me keep listening? One thing is for sure, it’s definitely not the clean vocal parts. That’s a trend that should have ended a day after it started. Some vocalists pull it off, but these parts just seem to get on my fucking nerves. Try to keep it raw on the next album cause that sounds amazing. Why bother trying to sing if you can just obliterate my ears with grunts and growls.
The Showdown actually reminds me a bit of Shadows Fall. Think American Metal, Swedish Death combined with a twist of Southern Rock. The one thing that amazes me the most is that I never even heard of this band before. I never heard of the original label “Mono vs Stereo”. Kinda amazing considering the fact that every shitty band playing this style gets hyped and promoted as being the next big thing in the metal scene. Luckily for us Century Media was smart enough to pick these guys up and re-release this album, and release the upcoming full length. Which will be out in the beginning of 2007 and I don’t expect anything less than pure metal mayhem!
