Machine Head - The Blackening

Hooray, Machine Head returned to their old sound! Too bad they did it ten years too late. There are a lot of bands out there that play the bombastic thrash metal Machine Head plays, so they’re not the only ones doing it now. And I wonder if they will be able to convince the fans who have moved on to other bands, like Machine Head moved on to other sounds again and again. After “Burn My Eyes” the band released “The More Things Change…” which wasn’t a bad album, but it just couldn’t top their debut. I’m afraid it will be exactly the same for “The Blackening”. The good thing is that the old sound is back, but the songs are at least 4.50 minutes long, four of them are actually 9 or 10 minutes! If you’re not Metallica or Black Sabbath you shouldn’t write songs which are that long. Machine Head does not have the capacity to keep it interesting for so long. The endless riffing, the epic proportions of the songs, it’s just too much. They should have used the KISS formula: Keep It Simple, Stupid. I like thrash metal, I like “Burn My Eyes” a lot, but I don’t like it that the band is constantly trying to re-invent itself.
I’m not sure if I should give it 5 or 6 snowflaky-Asice-things. I’ll start with 5 and maybe it grows into 6 in time.

| Ik ben het niet met je eens als het gaat om de technische kant van het verhaal: de plaat is wel degelijk vet en de langere nummers bieden wel degelijk iets extra's. Ik denk dat het vooral gaat om alle platen na Burn My Eyes en dan begrijp ik ook dat je een band niet meer serieus kunt nemen. Ik zag laatst pas een clip uit de NuMetal-periode en wist niet dat het zo erg is geweest. Maar Through the ashes of empires en The Blackening zijn wel degelijk harde platen. 3 volle sterretjes in ieder geval dus. Objectief gezien |

plaat is op sommige momenten echt cool, maar ook het tegendeel. geef em 3
ik zet liever die type o negative op, die is beter |

| Ze zijn nu definitief de K3 van de Metal. Elke plaat is weer een ´even klijken wat nu populair in de tienermetal scene is, dan gaan wij dat ook doen´ gebeuren. Met op deze plaat als dieptepunt de opportunistische cleane zang stukken. Walg! |

| Na BME de beste plaat van Machine head! Period! Snoeihard en vet geluid en zelfs de lange nummers blijven overeind, je moet er alleen meer dan 2 keer naar luisteren wil je alle nummers begrijpen. |

| best een aardige plaat ok burn my eyes is nooit te evenaren net als slayers reign in blood. het wordt tijd ons daar eens overheen te zetten.idd zijn de solos een beetje soft en die softe zang hoeft ook niet echt , laat je dit echter weg heb je geen machine head meer ,mooi fluisteren en opbouwen naar een hoogte punt zijn echt de caracterestieken van deze band en dat is naar mijn mening goed gelukt !! |

Dude you can't review CD's ! go work at the local supermarket !
I was never a machine head fan & i think this cd kick ass !! is Metal & is good !
by the way i'm 31 so iam not puber metal fan ! i'm not into trivium of stuff like that ;-) |
