Damaged Goods - s/t

Not Just Words
About a year after they released their demo Damaged Goods is back with their self-titled 7". Yes, that's right, it was already released in July of 2007, but it was never reviewed here. And that's a shame, since the tunes on this piece of wax are a real pleasure to listen to.
If you like the stuff that Venice heroes No Mercy played, you'll like Damaged Goods as well. They even had their artwork done by No Mercy bassist Ric Clayton. It all fits perfectly with the music, but that goes without saying, I guess.
The fast paced old school hardcore that Damaged Goods delivers makes sure that you have to listen to these six songs more than once, because it's over before you know it. "Sour Grapes" is an exception: that song is midtempo paced during the verses and fast during the chorus. I really like the lyrics of that one and of "One Size Fits All" as well. Really recognizable and easy to relate to.
When I first heard the vocals I couldn't think of the name of the band that they reminded me of. But it was so simple: Thumbs Down. Although I must say that Steven adjusted his vocals to the raw music that Damaged Goods plays. And I I like them a lot better this way. Great 7"!
