Tech 9 - Nine Lives
posted by: David on 27 November 2007

I Scream
When a band has been active for over 25 years, you might expect an album that’s written and recorded on autopilot. Well, not with Tech-9! These dudes from Eindhoven show on “Nine Lives” that punk rock is the fountain of eternal youth. It sounds so fresh and energetic you would think that this is their debut album. The title track tells us about the nine lives that Tech-9 has and it seems like they still have a lot of those lives left. Musically and production wise “Nine Lives” especially reminds me of “Last Line Of Defense” from 2000. They added an extra guitarist (Robert) which ensures even more guitar power than before. Don’t think that Tech-9 will start with crazy-ass guitar stunts, because they don’t. Straight forward punk rock has always been their thing and “Nine Lives” shows what Tech-9 is good at. The closing track also shows that the band still has fun and didn’t lose their sense of humour, because “Show Some (Dodge) Balls” is a tribute to the annual dodge ball tournament in Eindhoven’s very own Dynamo. But that doesn’t end “Nine Lives” just yet. Tech-9 added seven(!) bonus tracks to celebrate the 25 year punk rock anniversary of singer Hein and guitarist Jack. The first song Tech-9 ever wrote, “Survival” from 1982, is re-recorded and the other six songs are cover songs originally by Blondie, The Saints, Dead Boys, Generation-X, Ramones and Sex Pistols. Singer Sindee from All For Nothing and Lucy Dee’s Angels help the gentlemen out with their vocal qualities. In short: a mighty fine album by these veterans from Brabant!

Survival is inderdaad opnieuw opgenomen.
Het origineel komt van de demo uit '82. Zodoende.
