Gordon Ivy & The Jaybirds - Happy Couples Never Last

When I got this record and I read the band name and saw the artwork, I was sort of expecting a rock n roll type of hardcore band, but after the first song, it became clear to me that these Japanese kids draw a lot of influences from late 90’s bands such as Ten Yard Fight, Floorpunch and strangely enough Mainstrike. This cd contains nine songs and a lot of bonus tracks, which are the previous songs in different and demo mixes. I can’t really say that all the songs sound real good and original; some songs sound a bit too much the same. The lyrics are good enough, some parts do sound very similar to other lyrics, but this is probably because they want to address the same topics. The artwork is nicely draw but doesn’t really match with the music. Overall this release is good eough but I prefer to listen to slightly more original bands.

| van de choking hazard recs website: due to a continuous lack of respect from gordon ivy & the jaybirds,i lost all faith and motivation to promote that band,all the copies have been destroyed... hoe retarded is dat,berg knaken uitgeven om een plaat uit te brengen en omdat het klootzakjes zijn verbrand je de hele boel maar...ach ik ben iig blij met mijn plakkie...dit gaat om hun laatste 7'' trouwens...niet de cd,die is al oud geloof ik... |

| From Gordon Ivy & the jaybirds We are happy to announce we have nothing to do with Choking hazard records anymore!!! It was our mistake to chose such an awful label. He thought we were mad at him because of delaying of 7",but that's not the matter. The reason is;his laziness and lacking passion and love to the band. He tried to change the color of 7" original artowrk.We think it totally lacks respect to our designer. So we released CD on Akashic records/cocksuck records to cover awful distribution and we use original artwork on it. Don't take us wrong,we still think DIY,grass roots network is most important thing in hardcore.But that's not means laziness.DIY label should work hard cos' they got no help from bigger music industries,right? We'd like to let all the bands know succeeding where we failed. Look for honest,passionate,hardworking label or just DO IT YOURSELF! |
