Lightning Daze - Caught in a Frame

"Caught in a frame" by Italian emo punk pop foursome Lightning Daze is not a bad release. It has some solid songs and is easy on the ears. Problem is: I've already heard a few dozen albums that sound pretty much identical.

And when you do something that's been done to death already, you can't really afford any flaws. And problem is, this seven song mini album has a few. One of them is that you can hear pretty clearly that English is not singer Dami Rock's native language. Another one is the production. Especially the drum rolls sound weird, almost like they came from a cheap drum machine, and I don't have a clue what's going on with the badly overdubbed guitar solo on "Thank You Miss Kissgoodnight". Since these are by no means major flaws, they could've been compensated with some really kick-ass song material, but unfortionately the songs are all 'just OK'.

Like I said, this is not by any standard a bad release, if you're into Jimmy Eat World, Hot Water Music or The Get Up Kids, this is worth checking out. But just don't expect anything you've never heard any other band do a little bit better.
