v/a - A Tribute to 88 Fingers Louie

posted by: Joost78 on 11 December 2008

Eternalis

Chicago based punk rock band 88 Fingers Louie was active from 1993 until 1999. They were good, but (with all due respect) surely not one of the leading bands of their kind. So I think it's a bit surprising that, out of all bands, French labels My First Records and Eternalis Records chose them to do a tribute for.

"A Tribute to 88 Fingers Louie" contains cover versions by twenty bands that I've never heard of. So it's needless to say that I wouldn't deem this one of the most interesting or appealing tribute albums on the market. But I have to say, I've heard tribute albums that were much, much worse. Apart from the terrible lo-fi acoustic contribution from Five Across the Eyes, all the recordings are decent to good.

I doubt if there's much of an audience for this disc, but if you're a fan of 88 Fingers Louie and you've already heard all the original versions of their songs way too many times, this tribute should be an amusing listen.

Laatst mee gespeeld in België.
