Lionheart - The Will to Survive

posted by: stengels on 10 February 2009

I Scream

Lionheart is a 5-piece Bay Area band, and to keep it short: if you like the (older) Hatebreed sound you’ll like this one as well (and otherwise, stop reading now).

This release features the 11 songs from the band’s debut “The Will to Survive” that was originally released on Stillborn Records somewhere in 2007. I Scream Records now brings the same record to you, although an additional 6 songs are added to the track list.

The typical metalcore or ‘moshcore’ ingredients are all here on this heavy and intense record: pissed-off vocals, double-bass parts, breakdowns, gang-vocals; you name it, it’s there. Or to put it another way: take a large chunck of Hatebreed, add some slices of All Out War or Shattered Realm, and add a tiny tiny bit of more groovy NYHC seasoning, and you’ll end up with Lionheart. For me, bands like these always risk sounding too monotonous, and probably because of the length of this release (including the additional 6 songs) Lionheart doesn’t completely hold my attention for the whole length of the album.
The 6 songs that are new on this record sound more diverse than the older work, and include some more up-tempo parts and a bit more melody, but Lionheart doesn't do something unexpected or new there. The production of the album is pretty good, which can always make or break a record in this genre.

This one is for the fans who like the “hard” in “hardcore” – this genre might be filled to the point of overflowing, but Lionheart manages to stand out in a positive way on this album. The band is again on tour in Europe now, so make sure to check them out!

No rating cause it’s a re-release

denk dat dit eerder een livebandje is, op CD boeit het me niet echt. Jammer dat ik ze gister gemist heb.

Om eerlijk te zijn vind ik vrijwel elke mosh/ metalcore band live een stuk spannender dan op cd...
