The Dead Normality - Killing Reality

posted by: Lucas on 31 January 2010

Own release

Narrating the chronicles of World War II in five songs, 'Killing Reality' is Dead Normality's debut release. The band consists of ex-members of Dead by Dawn, Cypher and Deleterious and specializes in a modern-sounding yet pretty traditional mixture of death and thrash metal. Something that immediately impresses is the production. However, if I'd already known 'Killing Reality' was recorded in the Excess Studios in Rotterdam, it wouldn't be a suprise. The five songs sound solid, drawing influences from bands such as The Black Dahlia Murder, Dew-Scented, old Soilwork and the likes. The clean sung vocals in 'Known but to God' sound like another attempt to worship Soilwork, although that doesn't work out too well in my opinion. A big plus are the leads throughout the EP. Overall, it's pretty standard, despite their musical craftmanship and decent songwriting. If they manage to form more of an own identity, the next release could be really worthwhile.

Dank voor de review. Kleine, doch belangrijke, toevoeging. Alleen de drums zijn opgenomen in de Excess Studios en, met alle respect voor Excess (vaker met tevredenheid opgenomen daar), de sound daarvan was niet om over naar huis te schrijven. De productie is verder volledig homebrew.
