This Italian three piece plays old school hardcore but with a metallic edge that is most noticeable in the drums, a few bits of double bass here and there and some heavy moshparts.
But the reason Smashrooms stands out are their very political lyrics, they deal with a variety of topics, that are all close to home and easy to relate too. I can’t think of a single recent band with a similar music style that is so outspoken. This is definitely a big plus.
I think the production is nice, a thick sound with a raw edge. Funny detail is that the vinyl sounds much better than the songs on Myspace. I haven’t figured out why, but especially the drums and guitar sounds much better on vinyl. The artwork looks professional. It contains all the lyrics but they are a bit heard to read, I do dig that they put in a statement also to show where they are from and where they want to go, both with the band and their ideals.
It is always nice to be surprised by something new and exciting. Smashrooms did it. I would suggest to pick this up to be surprised by a good band.
