Watch Your Back - Traditional

posted by: maurice on 8 February 2010

Own release

Another Finnish hardcore record and again a record that seemed to be recorded in a rush. The drums sometimes sound like rubbish, as if the drummer didn't have the time to play his parts like they should sound. I admit with oldschool hardcore from the eighties it isn't necessary to play it tight but the fast outbursts (14 songs in 15 minutes) are sometimes suffering from the playing skills of the musicians. In the chaotic beginning of “Wreck of a Man” and in “Useless” you can hear the shortcomings best.

That's a shame because the intentions of Watch Your Back are sincere. They just want to play short and pissed off hardcore outbursts but due to the technical skills they don't have the impact as the classic bands like Negative Approach or Agnostic Front had. Vocalist Simmo has the perfect throat for this style of hardcore just like the plain and simple guitar riffs from Riku and Tombe.

This could’ve been an inspiring tribute, unfortunately the songs don’t run smoothly as it should. For the next record I advise to be more critical in the recording room or just hire a drummer that can play his parts better.
