One of the most evil and slow Doom Metal bands from the late eighties/early nineties was Winter. They only released a demo (later released as an EP) and the album 'Into Darkness', after their demise the band gained popularity. The last five years Doom Metal in all its forms is on the rise again and many underground bands are citing Winter as one of their influences.
Wolfsbane Records asked Unearthly Trance and Volition to pick their favorite Winter song and record it so they could release a split 7". Volition does "Eternal Frost" and Unearthly Trance "Servants of the Warsmen". The version of Volition is even heavier and slower than the original but the vocals aren't as catchy as the original version; in some way they sound a bit drunk. Volition is from the UK so that could be an option, right? Unearthly Trance is already a long running Doom band so they run smoothly through the song like it's a song of their own. With all their releases they can’t do wrong so also this time they don’t disappoint you.
500 copies are pressed, 200 on clear (including a poster) and 300 on black. The front cover is the layout of the 'Into Darkness' cover and the poster a photo of a burned down city with a few survivors on the run. A part of the photo is used as back cover and the photo of the front cover is from the same series. Together with an insert this EP is a very complete release and a tribute to one of the best underground Doom Metal bands.
