My City Burning - Lone Wolves
posted by: Maarten on 14 October 2010

I Scream
After a few weeks filled with budgets and numbers at work, you just want to let off some steam. And without paying attention, you place the new record by My City Burning in your record player. Lone Wolves perfectly suited what I needed, some sheer aggression being growled in my face.
They only needed one demo entitled White Lies, Black Eyes, to make name for themselves. The opening slots for bands such as Hatebreed, Pro-Pain and even Machine Head established My City Burning quite quickly. There's no doubt in my mind that would make me doubt their status after hearing this record. The mixture between thrash metal and hardcore might have been done many times before, nevertheless My City Burning makes it sound so fresh and exciting. There's a lot of variety and groove to make these 27 of the most interesting metalcore minutes I've heard in quite some time.
The guys in My City Burning just catapulted themselves into the major league and they did it with merely one full length. I only have one point of critique and that it could have lasted a bit longer for me. But that can even be interpreted as a compliment.
