Sean Price/Cold World - How The Gods Chill

posted by: intothevoid on 5 April 2011

White Love Group

On their previous releases Cold World made clear they have a love for hip hop. Now they share that love with Sean Price on their new collaboration single ‘How The Gods Chill’.

It’s probably not just me, but I can’t help to draw comparisons to the Judgement Night soundtrack when listening to How The Gods Chill. To be honest, this collaboration isn’t as good as when Ice T and Slayer teamed up for ‘Disorder’. Does this make How The Gods Chill bad? Not at all. The single has a great flow, some great, fitting lyrics and a top notch production by Nick Woj. Nothing wrong there.

To me the problem is that it brings nothing new to the table. It doesn’t really push the boundaries between hip hop and hardcore as much as I expected it to. It isn’t any different from other bands that have succeeded in combining both elements into their music. But who knows if Cold World continues to travel along this path, they might come up with a ground breaking single. For now it’s just the recognizable sound of Cold World. As if that’s a bad thing.

After ‘Dedicated To Babies Who Came Feet First...’, How The Gods Chill seems to be the logical next step for Cold World. It’s a good effort, but it doesn’t really stick out yet. But if you like Cold World, you will definitely like How The Gods Chill.

Before I forget: Side B, which contains the remix version of How The Gods Chill with Roc Marciano and Meyhem Lauren, is definitely worth checking out as well if you’re into hip hop.
