Aun is like a chameleon. It's pretty heavy but also psychedelic and it hints towards the shoegaze of My Bloody Valentine. 'Phantom Ghost' is a vague ride, pretty much made up of indie songs growing towards psychedelic moments that slowly transform into transcendental ambient.
The nicest fact is you can hear several other influences, even though Aun can't be compared to another band. On some moments ("Out of Mind") the ghost of Massive Attack flies around and in the song "Orga II" it's Biosphere. Overall, the serene vocals of Julie are like a shining star in the night.
The electronics sounds in “Travellers” (with the up-tempo beats) and “Nineteen Eighty-Four” feel like a low standing winter sun and give you that positive feeling when walking through a snowy landscape with the sun shining on your head. The music evolves into the direction of Justin Broadrick’s electronic work (Pale Sketcher) in “Ghost”. The mix of ambient and shoegaze is a bit uncomfortable (take this as a compliment) and the record ends with an untitled final spacy ambient piece.
On ‘Phantom Ghost’ Aun takes several directions and still stays within the same framework. I can only congratulate them with their wave of subtle changes in their music.
