DanDare - Uncritical Mass

posted by: David on 3 January 2004

Break Some

Dandare can squeeze 9 songs into 13 minutes. So it seems obvious that we’re talking about ultrafast old school hardcore, right? These Dutch guys have been pounding away since 1989, which resulted in their first real release (not counting own releases and compilations) “Define It, Defeat It” in 2002. Now, on the threshold of 2004, Dandare is back with their new EP “Uncritical Mass”, on which they continue with their familiar sound. It’s not like you expected Dandare to switch to emocore, did you? Of course not. This is fast, faster, fastest. With intelligent lyrics that force you to think about the problems in our society, so you also learn something from these guys as well. But the most important thing is that Dandare knows how to play kick-ass fast hardcore, like they played it in the good old days. So if you want to get your hands on “Uncritical Mass” for just 5 euros, send an e-mail to info@dandare.nl.

Disc of the Week:
Dandare
uncritical mass
[Break Some Records]

Seeing members of MDC and The Offenders appear in the thanks list on uncritical mass could be considered a telling sign of the approach this Dutch hardcore band takes, as Dandare rage in a manner that wouldn't have been out of place in Texas circa 1982. This means the band spit out anger-fueled, blisteringly fast thrash in the vein of their Dutch forefathers BGK, or Texans DRI or MDC, albeit updated with a modern day European hardcore spin.

From the opening feedback of "Electronic God" through to the closing track, "Down the Spiral," Dandare relentlessly pound their way through nine tracks of undistilled hardcore aggression, with vocalist Michiel barking out his pissed-off rants like a rabid dog. Blazing past in a hair over 13 minutes, uncritical mass is short, fast, and to-the-point. Exactly the way hardcore should be.

Eric Flexyourhead.
