Fit For Abuse

F.F.A. got started in the winter of ’95. Inspired by the likes of Negative FX, Poison Idea, Gang Green and Negative Approach, Fit For Abuse released their debut 7” “Mindless Violence” on crust records in ’97. After releasing the EP, singer Matt Kelly joined the Dropkick Murphys as their drummer and decided to leave FFA because of his nonstop touring schedule.

The band decided to continue on without him. After trying out a few singers they replaced Matt Kelly with Psycho Ray. Highlights of the “Psycho Ray Era” include him assaulting the crowd during sing-a-longs (the choke-slam incident), and once he even threw a can full of nails at the crowd during a pile-on! Ouch! Fit For Abuse hit the studio to record an EP with Psycho Ray on vocals, but the recording never saw the light of day. The reels vanished along with Psycho Ray, and the recording was scrapped along with any hopes that FFA would continue on.

Re-enter, Matt Kelly. After the long break, it turned out that Matt still wanted to sing for FFA after all. After discussing matters with the rest of the guys, they decided to resurrect Fit For Abuse but keep it as a part-time band, only. Over the past year or so FFA have played sporadically with bands such as Right Brigade, A Poor Excuse, Cops and Robbers, Tear it up, Shark Attack and others. Matt Kelly’s touring schedule with the D.K.M. is still very extensive, so Fit For Abuse only exists in Spurts.

After not playing at all for about a year, FFA surfaced most recently in July, ’02. Long time guitar player Muzzi decided to leave the band and he has since been replaced by friend, James Lynch. On July 30th FFA played the Berwick in Boston, MA and it was by far the best set I’ve ever seen them play. They played all of the songs off the 7”, a few demo tracks as well as “No End In Sight” by the almighty Abused. Holy shit, it was great! Hopefully we will continue to see FFA playing shows into the future! When FFA’s drummer Joe isn’t drumming in FFA or numbering his socks, he plays bass in Think I Care and sings in RnR, both great MA bands, check them out if you already haven’t.

They are playing two shows in September of 08

From the band's blog...

"September 20th at the Clinton Elks Lodge in Clinton, MA we're playing with ENTROPY(reunion gig), GLUE, the NEW LOWS, PITFALL, and THE BONUS ARMY. This will be the 12th anniversary of the recording of our "Mindless Violence" e.p.

The following day at 5pm , we're playing at Anchors Up at 58 River st. in Haverhill MA with German greats DEAN DIRG, Boston Lobster-Oi! TOMMY AND THE TERRORS, and now the mighty TAMPOFFS. Come see us make fools of ourselves and come support the Krauts!"
