Terzij De Horde - A Rage Of Rapture Against The Dying Of The Light

posted by: maurice on 4 May 2010

Own release

Liar, Liar Cross on Fire was a too pretentious name so after some beers in a bar in Utrecht these guys decided to go on with the name Terzij De Horde. In contrary to their Demo-CD the sound is much more powerful and cleaner. Also the guitar sound is heavier with the addition of Demian Snel (Fehler).

In the review of 'Exposed, Barren and often Windswept' I was mostly into the longer songs and “The Roots of Doomsday Anxiety” was my favorite one. Luckily no short outburst is on this EP and they've recorded my favourite one in a better sound. Again the banjo makes the ending of this song very weird. The banjo continues and leads us to "Non Timetis Messor". It concludes the EP and it’s the proof Terzij De Horde has found its own niche in the Dutch avant-garde metal scene.

As on the previous one the bleak atmosphere of the guitars reminds me of Leviathan, it's mixed with the raging violence of screamo. Narrow-minded people who think you can't mix these genres should listen to "Prometheans" or "Vertigo: the Mithraic Ritual". It's as if a Black Metal maniac was forced to make an album with the guys from Orchid.

Two things are noticeable: first of all the unpleasant feeling you get when you listen to this EP, the second one is how smoothly they’ve mixed the heavy doomy parts with the raging outbursts. Packaged in a beautiful landscape artwork with old drawings (the tree for example) you can’t refuse to buy ‘A Rage Of Rapture Against The Dying Of The Light’ for seven euros. You can listen the songs on their myspace.
